Exploring Medicine and Community in Hualcayán, Peru
About
Me
Hi! I’m Collin Nguyen, a Top Scholar and Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Texas at San Antonio, with a minor in Chemistry. I’m passionate about applying science and innovation to real-world challenges, especially in medicine, global health, and underserved communities.
I’m currently in Hualcayán, Peru as part of a service-learning abroad program that blends hands-on public health, medical care, and cultural immersion. Over these few weeks, I’ll be working in a free clinic, participating in community health workshops, and learning about Peruvian history, anthropology, and the Quechua language — all alongside local leaders and a bilingual U.S. physician.
When I’m not in the field, I’m usually diving into research, coordinating student-led biotech initiatives, or fishing all around Texas. You can read more about my experiences through reflections, photos, and journal entries I’ll be posting here.
